Fruit Spotlight: Jackfruits!

I recently discovered how delicious Jackfruits are after my dad brought some home one day. To me, the flesh is soft, smooth, slightly sweet, aromatic and has a kind of milky, silky texture to it. It tastes a little like a cross between a Mango and Melon! šŸ˜‹

My favourite way of eating them is by themselves! Just take a small bite each time and savour the flavour!

Jackfruit Facts!

1. Native to South and Southeast Asia, the Jackfruit is sometimes known as the “King of Fruits” (Singaporeans say it’s the Durian!). Some have been known to grow up to 90 cm in length and 45 cm in width and weigh up to 35 kg! Because of this, they grow and hang from the trunk instead of the branches.

2. Jackfruit flesh are rich in B-vitamins, especially B6 (25% of DV in 100grams!). B-complex vitamins are important for healthy cell functioning and for metabolism of our foods for fuel!

3. Jackfruits are also a good source of potassium, magnesium and vitamin C!

4. Did you know a Jackfruit tree can bear up to 200 fruits a year?!

5. The roots of the tree has been traditionally used to treat fever, asthma and diarrhoea!

These days I’m expanding the variety of fruits I eat to get a wider array of vitamins and appreciate the many different tastes! Posting about them also gives me a chance to learn more about the food I eat!

Have a new favourite fruit you’ve discovered? I’d love to hear about it!Ā
