“The Agony in The Garden”

Agony in the Garden Poster.JPG

This morning I was pleasantly surprised by my boss when he showed me one of his favourite posters as seen above!☝🏻

He was at a catholic bookshop when this caught his eye.

It depicts the scene of the 1st Sorrowful Mystery of the Holy Rosary where Jesus went into the Garden of Gethsemane to pray to the Lord.

He knew full well what was about to happen to him.

The betrayal and his disciples deserting him, the trial, scourging, crowning with thorns, carrying of the cross and eventually his crucifixion and death.

Excerpt from my Rosary prayer book:

(4) And He says to his disciples, “My soul is sorrowful even onto death; stay here and watch with Me.”

(5) And going a little further into the garden by Himself, our Lord falls flat on the ground and He prays that this hour, this chalice, pass from Him.

(6) And being in agony, He prays the longer. His sweat becomes as drops of blood, trickling down upon the ground.

(7) He goes back to His disciples. And finding them sleeping, He says to Peter, “What? Could you not watch one hour with Me?”

(8)A second time, He goes and prays: “My Father, if this chalice may not pass away, but I must drink it, Thy will be done.”

(9) Once again he finds his disciples asleep; so He returns to pray a third time, saying the selfsame words.

(10) At last, He returns to the sleepy three, wakes them, and goes to face Judas and the multitude.
