About Me: 2020 Update

Hi, I’m John Tang. Welcome to my blog!

I’m a final year student of Naturopathy and Herbal Medicine at Wellpark College of Natural Therapies, Auckland, New Zealand.

I started this blog back in 2015 to document my experiences battling an autoimmune disorder.

That health crisis led me down this crazy journey discovering and experimenting with all sorts of natural therapies to try and heal myself. At 23, I was not convinced when my specialist told me that I had to depend on pharmaceutical drugs for the rest of my life. There had to be another way, a more natural approach.

I experimented with diet, supplements and lifestyle changes. That got me somewhere but still wasn’t enough to fully resolve the issue, or get to the root cause of the problem.

I suffered for 3 long years, often relying on painkillers to get through the day …

Eventually, I discovered Naturopathy and Herbal Medicine. I saw a practitioner, followed his protocol, took his herbs and faithfully entrusted my health into his hands.

In 3 months I was off all medications, even the painkillers!

I am now symptom-free and manage my autoimmune disorder with just my diet and lifestyle.

This journey has enabled me to empathize with those suffering from chronic diseases and kindled a fire in me to help them through my knowledge and experiences.

Through this I have also found my mission/calling in life:

“To help those suffering unnecessarily HEAL
and TEACH others to lead a healthy, productive and fulfilling life.”

More about me:

I am passionate about …

The mind – I believe everything starts with our thoughts. Watch the documentary “HEAL” to learn more.

Nutrition – I believe what we put into ourselves has a huge impact on how we feel.

Physical fitness I used to be an athlete and in many ways still am. I feel it’s a shame to let your bodies deteriorate by lack of physical activity. I like the greek philosophy – “The Greeks of the Classical era believed that physical fitness and mental clarity were two sides of the same coin. A good citizen was virtuous in mind and in body; training was a civic duty, rather than a lifestyle choice.” [1]

Herbal Medicine – The original/traditional medicine of our forefathers, tried and true through generations of experimental use. There is so much herbal medicine can do for our ailing society today. Sometimes we need to return to nature to be healed.

Spirituality – To live fully, I believe we need to find our purpose, our calling or mission in life and fulfil it. I also believe in a higher power – “Our Father”, as Jesus says. And in the power of prayer.

Loving relationships – Human beings are communal beings. We depend on each other to survive. But we also depend on our environment, on Gaia. I hope we can live in peace and harmony, not only with each other but with the planet and all its inhabitants. This includes being a Kaitiaki (Guardian) for our environment.

The future?

I will go wherever he leads me.

Currently I feel it is back home in Singapore where I feel there are many people who can benefit from what I’ve learnt. Home is also where my heart is.

I am also working on re-structuring this site to focus less on myself and more on educational content that can benefit the masses.

So watch this space 😉
